Progressive Muscle Relaxation is a systematic relaxation technique that takes the participant through their entire body, tensing and relaxing the major muscle groups. It can be used to:
- Reduce anxiety, stress, and tension
- Relax
- Promote body awareness
- Enhance the mind-body connection
- Sleep
You will be an active participant in this relaxation technique while you are teaching your body and mind what it feels like to relax. After consistently practicing this technique, you will be more aware of the tension in your body and how to release that tension for more productive performance (in sport and life). This CD also includes deep breathing and cue words for the ultimate relaxation experience.
Autogenic Training is a passive form of relaxation where the participant learns how to “command” their body to relax and the body learns how to respond to those commands. When muscles are relaxed, terms that are generally used to describe the feelings in the muscles are “warm” and “heavy”. Using these terms, autogenic training uses repetition for instruction to feel those sensations in the body. Autogenic training can be used to:
- Teach the body to respond to the mind
- Reduce anxiety, stress, and tension
- Regulate the body (breathing, heart beat)
- Relax
- Sleep
